Mike & Marie

Long time Paufve Dance collaborator Mike Barber performs a new solo, Mike & Marie, an homage to Marie Antoinette, drawn from Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film “Marie Antoinette”, a historical drama depicting Antoinette as a teenage pawn married off for political alliances - yet another woman used and abused by the power mongers and elite forces of history.  Mike & Marie features dancer Mike Barber, a 67 year old man performing in drag, evoking images of a snow globe, a portrait of a woman trapped in a glittery glass prison. Presented against the backdrop of the current political climate in the United States, the dance engenders an expansive and compassionate perspective on Antoinette and the place of many such women, in history.
